My

STORY

A cup of tea with some books

Reading is a beautiful form of escapism...

Birch Books was conceived from a lifetime obsession with books and reading, encouraged by my mother who is also a voracious reader. Some of my early favourites were Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and the novels of Enid Blyton (especially The Famous Five and The Naughtiest Girl in School). My tastes, as I’ve grown, are varied and eclectic and no matter where I’ve been in life, from traveling the world to curling up on the couch at home, I’ve always had a stack of books nearby. To me, one of the most wonderful things about reading is the richness of a beautifully written story in a voice that carries you off into another place. Every story has the power to transport us in so many ways, and never before has reading felt more important. In this crazy world, there’s something comforting about diving into a new story, inhaling the first sentence and then losing yourself inside another world. I hope you enjoy looking around, and I hope you return, time and time again, to purchase books you’re desperate to read.

Happy Reading

"Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real reading is grist. Reading is bliss." Nora Ephron
